In 2006 I joined a research trip to China organized by student association ID. As part of this trip I conducted research for Philips on the lifestyle of young urban Chinese. The nature of this research was more or less of anthropological nature, and aimed to provide insights for the design department of Philips in the Netherlands.
The study was conducted as a group of six students. We gathered thousands of photo’s, video’s, did interviews and visited chinese at home, mainly around the Shanghai and Hangzhou area. As the deliverable, we made a wall of 60 booklets with a compelling cover. Each booklet described its subject supported with pictures and a concise conclusion.
It was chosen to present our findings in this unconventional format, to encourage casual interaction with the research in the office environment. With the findings hanging on the wall, it is easier to put finding side to side and interact with them then a traditional report.
